CTH Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management

QCA validated & NQF rated at Level 5, this course acts as the first two years of the degree.

Year 1

The first year syllabus concentrates on the retail aspects of the tourism industry and the associated business practices that are essential to the effective delivery of travel services.

The airline fares and ticketing modules of the programme lead to industrystandard internationally-recognised Virgin Atlantic qualifications. Students are also taught how to use the marketleading Sabre computerised reservation system, obtaining a professional user qualification endorsed by the powerful Star Alliance network of world airlines and by Sabre itself. These specialised industry awards represent valuable additions to the CVs of students on this programme, increasing their employability with travel companies and airlines worldwide.

Students take examinations set and marked by WLC during this programme and have access to course materials prepared by WLC and CTH.

Year 2

The second year syllabus is devoted to study of the tourism industry from the tour operators' perspective, advanced business practices, and the development and management of sustainable tourism by governments and by private enterprise.

Students learn how to compile all-inclusive tours with flights, excursions and accommodation, the relevant financial & management techniques, and how to undertake the strategic planning necessary to ensure that tourism continues as a sustainable business in the future.

Students who are successful on this programme, pass the coursework, and achieve a 'merit' profile (average 60%) in the final examinations, may be considered for entry to the final year of the degree.

NB. Applications for direct entry to the second year are invited from holders of recognised Diploma level qualifications from the UK and overseas and also from those with industry experience.
