Course overview
Many overseas students speak and write English quite well at the time of their application but do not quite have the high level of English Language proficiency required for a bachelors or masters degree programme and so are unable to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) at the required level, which is B2 (eg IELTS 5.5) to obtain a student visa for a degree level course. Nevertheless they are keen to commence their studies at the College and so need to enrol on a pre-sessional English course combined with their main degree programme.
This course is specifically designed to raise a student’s English Language proficiency from B1 level eg IELTS 4.0) to B2 level (eg IELTS 5.5) in the full range of skills needed to pass a SELT at the required level and satisfy the ‘next stage’ visa requirement for the degree. So students must apply for a separate visa for this pre-sessional programme and then apply for another visa in London for the degree programme. The College will assist with the second visa application and it can be done by post.

Course Duration
- 3 or 6 months
Entry Requirements
High School Diploma plus, for overseas students who require a general student visa, any Secure English Language Test at B1 level, eg IELTS 4.0 (in all four skills).
NB. It is not necessary for overseas students who need a visa to apply for a general student visa for this course. A student-visitor visa is adequate but will mean that the student will need to return to his/her home country on completion and apply for a general student visa for further studies. There is no Secure English Language Test requirement for a student-visitor visa.

- WLC Pre-sessional English Certificate
* As an incentive to students to make the necessary progress on this course the College will allow a tuition fee credit of £1000 (£500 for 3 month course) to the main degree programme to students who pass the IELTS exam with a grade of 5.5 or above. This means that the net cost of the 6 month programme for successful students is £1,500 rather than £2,500 or £750 rather than £1,250 for the 3 month programme.
